Adding Children to a Particle
As soon as I click the "+" next to children in the Particle Editor, I see the dreaded explosion of orange X's. This is before I even select a child. Am I supposed to do something else first, or is this a bug? I ignored the error and selected the child anyway. Both particles played together in the Particle Editor. When I checked out my map in VR, however, it was all orange X's again. Must one use scripts or entity I&Os in order to string together sequences of particles?

It playing the error paticle when making a child seems to be normal behavior. It sounds like you got everything right, so not sure why it would dispaly differently in-game. The particles get updated in realtime, so you should be able to see any changes in-game while using the particle editor.

Thanks. I'll try it again. It may have just been a glitch. If it persists, I'll try rebooting SteamVR before going back in. In the past, that has resolved problems with missing particles/materials after a Hammer Editor crash.

I just thought of something else that may have caused the error in-game. Hopefully, I can explain this intelligibly: I made a splash particle and a ripple particle. I was using them with your beach map script. I was able to point to my particle names and get them to work as expected. Then, I decided to parent the splash to the ripple for option A (speed > SPLASH_MIN_SPEED) and keep the ripple separate for option B (the "else" part of the function). Is it possible to use the same vpcf file as part of a parent-child particle system and again as an individual particle?

Yes, I think that should work.

Must've just been a fluke. I tried it again and it works now. Thanks!
