Remastered graphics and audio mods
Was just wondering, could it be possible to get official tools added for modding in HD graphics/sounds/music?

For example, there's an emulator called "HiSMS" which lets you replace the sprites in games like Alex Kidd with new graphics that are far higher resolution.

If this kind of toolset was added alongside the Steam Workshop, people wouldn't have to rip roms or re-code game engines in order to remaster old Sega games.

An example that comes to mind is the fan project "Sonic 2 HD". BEAUTIFUL art and music, but imagine if this kind of remaster was made possible for ALL Sega roms, and via official tools?
Looking at the development history of this fan project, they've put a huge amount of work into it, and gone through multiple engines, etc, to reach the progress it's currently at.

Imagine if they didn't have to re-code the engine, how much further their progress may be if they could insert the current Sonic 2 HD assets (graphics, music/sfx, shaders) on top of the existing official rom?

I'm sure many fans would love to have this ability provided to them, I know I would :)

Something along the lines of "GameRemaster Studio"....like GameMaker Studio's IDE but specifically for opening up Sega roms and replacing assets!

This wouldn't ever be possible with the emulator shared between the SImple Launcher and Room HUB, especially since this whole thing was already abandoned by the developers of the more recent Room HUB last year and the Simple Launcher's original team from over six years ago abandoning it right out the gate.

Not to mention that these would all still be locked down by the restrictions of the Mega Drive, since you're just asking for what's essentially just texture packs and audio replacements. It's still very old technology, including it's graphical rendering, synthesized music, refresh rates and physics capabilities. It's always going to only output in it's tiny box resolution and have synth music that renders from the Mega Drive itself.

At the point you want to create a fresh new version of these old games, you're better off starting everything from scratch, engine included. Especially in the case of games like the original Sonic games, which are actively hindered by the restrictions of the hardware (like being able to outrun the level graphic rendering and getting trapped). Hence why we have those remastered versions, made in a modern engine, that give a more definitive experience.
