In all fairness, the first Macross series (Super Dimensional Fortress Macross) did become the first season of Robotech, so there is that.
There's already a Macross mod for Homeworld Remastered, but the American Robotech series has little to no mods for it anywhere. So my vote is for Robotech, which still has its' genesis in Macross.
Plus, Robotech had multiple enemies (the Zentraedi, the Robotech Masters, and the Invid) whereas Macross just had one enemy. So if you're gonna do a mod for the original Empire at War without Zann, then Macross makes sense.
But if you're going to include the expansion Forces of Corruption then Robotech makes the most sense for that.
Macross canon says there are thousands of ‘main fleets’ so it’s not like there would be a shortage of factions considering all the infighting. Plus I believe there are six or seven additional human like races in Macross.
Imo Macross would probably have better space battles but Robotech would have better ground battles.
I remember Macross continued to develop but again it's about ease of adaptation.
Robotech may have less content - for now - but it's easier to adapt because of it.
Also as a related side note, as of either 2020 or 2021, Harmony Gold no longer has Robotech "locked down". More content for Robotech is free to come to the U.S. now.
We have a limited number of factions in the game (3) that can have AI enabled for them without issue. Any more than that will be problematic.
Macross might have more content but it'll have to be limited down to three factions.
Full disclaimer: I'm not a modder, but i have experience playing mods that have more than three factions in them.
From people like the guy who made the Star Trek mod for this game, who made dozens of smaller factions but had to disable their AI, there's a soft limit of three factions that can have AI enabled for them. Any more than that, and the game runs into trouble processing their movements.
What?
