Confused about workshop content.
I'm a little confused about some things and hopefully I can get them sorted out.

I started wondering what the workshop DLC was all about and started browsing cars and tracks. Some cars and tracks are made by the developer, some aren't. Subscribe / unsubscribe, awesome. Good stuff.

What confused me was when I started thinking about common content between game lobbies and my installed content. So when I went to connect to a lobby, my game started downloading the required content. Excellent stuff.

Then the kicker hit me: Some content in the lobbies I've connected to I cannot find in the workshop and I do not know how to subscribe to that content or if I even can. If I come to enjoy some content I got from a lobby, is it just gone forever if I have to reinstall my game and that lobby goes down?

I understand I shouldn't be too upset about some free content potentially going away as it was never promised to me in the product I purchased, I'm only looking for clarification on how all this works because I never used a game quite setup like this one before.

Thanks for reading my post.

Not everything created by modders is uploaded to the Workshop.

You'll find tracks that others have created/modified are automatically downloaded when you try to join their lobby, provided said lobby isn't private.

It's anyone's guess as to how much content is really out there because of all the privately modded content that people keep to themselves for their own use/amusement.

Thanks for your reply and explanation, makes everything make a little more sense now.

Would backing up my workshop content folders be sufficient to save any content I have for future use in case I ever have to reinstall the game? Because I was also wondering how I would go about installing content that is available from other places that aren't on Steam, if I were to find any since you make a point about them not all being in the workshop.

After any non Workshop mod (rfcmp files) is installed the rfcmp in the Packages folder can be deleted or archived elsewhere if you want.
The Packages folder is nothing more than a storage folder.

Workshop mods are downloaded into their own folder found:
\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\365960
365960 is rF2 Steam ID number.
Each Workshop mod has it's own ID number which is the numbers at the end of it's url. steamcommunitycom/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1885152462
Turn on Display url in Steam settings if it isn't displayed.
Workshop mods are, again rfcmp files and if you want you can archive them elsewhere but do not remove them or they will be downloaded again if you haven't unsubscribed.

You can infact Subscribe to a mod, once downloaded find it's folder in 365960 folder.
Copy the rfcmp file somewhere then unsubscribe it from the Workshop. Then install that rfcmp as a Non Workshop mod.
Only problem then is it won't be automatically updated from the Workshop if the mod is updated.

This is a video about Worksop and non Workshop mod in/unstallation.
Do not opt into the new UI beta as it's inbuilt content manager (besides other things) is not fully functional.
If you have no Packages folder you can just make a new folder and name it Packages.

He doesn't go into S397 paid DLC.
The rF2 Store page is here
https://steamhost.cn/itemstore/365960/
It can also be reached from the Steam Store page for rF2 in the "Items Available for this game"
Any SA397 paid DLC is then found in your Steam Inventory page.
