silly question. but where do custom workshop maps show up in game?

Workshop levels can be accessed in Multiverse.
You can either enable or disable the Level Editor. If disabled, it will allow you to play multiple levels in a playlist.

From Main Menu -> Multiverse -> Host (on the left) -> set password (optional) -> disable Level Editor (for Playlist mode) -> Add Map(s) (subscribed Steam items) -> Host (on the right)

If you want to load up levels without having to go to main menu:
Right top set playlist mode - choose the map
Or Load level - steam workshop button right top
