Try changing the material they use for their armour/insides, like Browncoats' Kevlared Flesh is pretty strong, as is Military Stuff. Also, gib limit is important which means their threshold before the part simply breaks, ignoring unit HP. 800 HP means nothing when your head has the fraility of an egg shell.
I'm not sure the exact meaning of the values, but you should be able to figure a good guess by comparing say, browncoats units, material, and limits against clones, ronin, dummies, etc. weaker units.
