Things we should be aware of with outdated Workshop designs?
New player here. I'm really attracted to some of the older stuff in the Workshop, especially some of the ones that were clearly popular. But I can read. I understand that a lot of older designs have become obsolete or no longer work in the newest game updates. I understand that many have performance issues, or may perform lackluster compared to newer stuff. I know older airships or aircraft may not fly. I know ships may not stay afloat. I know engines may not work as well as they once did... etc.

But can veteran players offer some tips on what we should be aware of with older designs?

Specifically:
  • Are there "cutoff dates" we should be aware of in terms of when a design was last updated, with designs older than this date that we should be wary of? For instance, I vaguely recall reading in the comments of one item something about how older aircraft stopped working in the "latest update" due to changes - and that comment was posted in August of either 2018 or 2019. (I forget which.) Also: Are aircraft more vulnerable to changes and less likely to work as compared to things like ships, subs, tanks or bases? Should really old base designs still work because they're just bases?
  • Can anyone give some hints on the types of parts and things we would likely need to change or fix to get an old design to work in the latest update? Might it help to remove and then re-add certain types of parts? Am I correct in assuming that changes made over the last couple of years may make aircraft unable to fly correctly due to changes to AI or AI modules? What else? Sensors? What about ship propellers? CRAM? I remember reading that some things, like lasers, got nerfed at some point. And I seem to recall reading something about changes to other types of weapons.

BTW: I did read some of the most recent News blurbs. So, I am aware that ammunition and fuel have been removed as resources and that fuel refineries no longer function as they used to. Obviously, that would impact things like 'Starter Base' with one or more oil processors or fuel refineries.

I'm also aware that ammo processors are automatically replaced with decorative material storage lockers. And I know that fuel tanks and ammo barrels hold materials now. This will obviously change the amount of material storage on older designs.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any other tips or advice.

Big one is ~June 2020, Nether 2019 update that quite probably broke any airship that hasn't been updated after it and possibly anything else that flies or requires hydrofoils.

2.8 builds should be fine going from old to new, just not new to old.

Then there's a few other ones for weaponary/engine changes of which dates idk.
