At the end of Koichi's quest line you can access the museum but there isn't actually much reason to. It would be nice if instead of being a useless area it was instead much larger containing dedicated spaces for fossils, pets, cosmetic clothing, instruments and other collectibles. This would save you having to build out a huge section of your base to display it all or end up locking most of it away in cargo containers.
