[Bug] Game installing unsubscribed Workshop items

I installed rFactor 2 today and, knowing that it would start loading all the Workshop itemsI wasn't even remotely interested in, I unsubscribed from nearly everything. However, to my surprise, when I launched rFactor 2, it started loading in all the "default" items I unsubscribed from. Somehow the game auto-subscribed to everything again and started loading tons of data for no reason at all.

There is no way to cancel the process so it's slightly infuriating to have to uninstall them again at a later time and hope they won't pull this trick off once more.

did you unsubscribe from the steam workshop, or did you unsubscribe whilst you were inside rFactor2 in the new UI

I unsubscribed from all the items in the Workshop itself, before opening the game.
