MODs worth having?
I briefly browsed the workshop and the most popular, installed, etc. all do not seem to add much other than break the game. Disabling tonnage will make levels too easy. Changing costs breaks the economy...etc.

Are there any quality of life improvement mods? I don't want to easy mode the game or break the economy. Any mods that allow my buddy to bring "his" character in...or his preferred mech?

MechAttributeViewer is a QoL steam.

No there isn't. I suggest just starting world with your friend just play in it together.

Checkout Nexus for the good stuff and manually install a lot of content creators don't want to buy the game again

Mw5compatibility for mod support
SMMO is a good mod for mousing over who you'll be fighting for/against without travelling to the system first
Precision Sights for a better hud
Xenopax - Optimize for smoother graphics
Coyote's Missions for more mission types
Beachhead Objective Fix
Mech Attribute Viewer - see extra tech (DHS, FF, etc) on mechs
Temp Mechlab Equip Fix - until PGI fixes what they broke

Everything else is up to taste
Cockpit Glass for better immersion
Logical Lore Salvage returns legging and headshots as the primary way to get mechs instead of coring.
TTAI and/or Xeno's AI to make the bots not as dumb.
Equippable Sensor Antenna to help fix PGI's LoS only radar
All Pilots Have Potential gives a reason to stick with the pilots you have instead of dumping. Though I've found near max pilots for hire using it. ymmv.
Lore Style Day 1 Armor Repairs or Modified Armor Repair for faster mech repairs
Large Markets if you don't want to spend as much time traveling to buy gear
More Merc Levels if you want something to do after reaching 15
Better Salvage Shares - changes from 3 to 5 per point for most missions. Allows you to get mechs sooner.

Weapon mods: Pirate Tech or Xeno Ballistics & Energy mods, or YAW packs. Xenos and Pirate Tech don't play well with one another, with Pirate overwriting in my setup.

Thanks so much! If I can't find it on Steam, I will try Nexus. I hope the steam install doesn't make Nexus mods difficult to use.

That is what I found in the workshop. The rest are on Nexus.

I am using the following from steam and nexus (* are the ones I wouldnt play without). I also use a reshade present I have adapted from the Industrial one on nexus that I like more than vanilla:

-Better lighting
-Burning Battlefield
-Casual Hires
-Cockpit HD
-Cockpit light
-Cockpit glass*
-Colorized heatgauge
-Coyote*
-Enable Infantry
-Enhance Cooldown Pips
-Equippable senor mod*
-Expanded Pilots
-Fake ID
-Mech HD
-Merctech stable build 1736 (this is on their discord)
-Mechattributeviewer
-Mechs of Beauty
-Mission tweak
-MW 2 Betty*
-Remove green pickup zone
-Sounds of succession wars* (everyone should ahve this)
-TTRulez_AI* (this has some bugs for some people)
-Unlock Hidden color schemes
-Volatile*
-VonBiomes*
-XenoPax_Foliage*
-XenoPax Optimize

I have also have a script that allows me to fake TrackIR headtracking with my Tobii which is amazing for immersion. Its crazy its not in the game really!

Modders have really made this game so much better as when I played it a while back it all felt to stale.

does cockpit glass not make things blurry? the pics I saw seemed to make it harder to see things.

While these all seem to be really good suggestions, I would like to point out that the Sensors one is not a PGI thing. it is that way as designed into the TT game. The ability to overcome LOS sensor locks is supposed to be obtained through Spotters, BAP, or some other advanced sensors.

Can you please let me know how you setup a script to work with headtracking? I have TrackIR and would like to use it in game, thanks.

Mods, yes there are a Ton of mods that are worth having in your game that are HUGE QOL improvements. Know how ever that if you intend on playing this kind of game on Steam Deck then Nexus Mods will Not sync the way the WorkShop mods do.

You can sort the workshop by what has been downloaded the most that will give you a good idea of what others like to use, Alot of the community uses most if not all of the YAML and Yet Another series because they simply add the most like improved night vision, the Addition of Thermal Enhancement view like we have in MWO alone is worth getting. Theres another mod that allows you to see the mission types and factions associated by simply mousing over the system name Is Frickin Huge when you consider the fact that Faction Reputation is how you advance the storys, Get more Loot and Money. Another mod skips the cut scene every time you jump which over the course of 100+ drops can save you hours that could have been spent doing more drops and managing your mechs.

Personally I just wish this game had ♥♥♥♥♥♥ VR Support

since the latest DLV mandatory patch went out and broke all the mods, and its been very slow for any mod updates, the game is reduced to a slow, painful slog again, way to go and piss off your customers, ace'd it !

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2882442766 Bound to be something you like on this list. Also known universe mod is well worth getting as it expands the map and factions well beyond PGI's map but will have to join YAML discord to get that one.

It's also a WIP mod and lacks stability/compatibility as a result, so YMMV, buyer beware, all that jazz. Don't point people at mods like that one without including the caveats, please?

Been using it for a while now and had zero issues, not that there is none but its perfectly serviceable, irregardless of your scruples i highly recommend it and will point people anywhere I damn well please lol. Its not like I have a gun to peoples had saying"install this mod!"

Also , YAML, coyotes, vonbiomes, TT rules and a number of the more popular mods used by most players...Yup, all WIP.
