Synergies Mod for Mechwarrior 5 - Cheating or more lore-friendly than vanilla?
Hey fellow Mechwarriors,

I'd like to hear your opinion about the main feature of the new Synergies Mod for Mechwarrior 5.

"SLOT CHANGES.
All Small slots are changed to Medium Slots.
All Medium slots are changed to large slots.
All Small weapons can be housed in Medium Slots.
All Medium weapons can be housed in Medium or Large slots.
All Large Weapons can be housed in Large slots."

In the Mechlab, this means that theoretically every slot that could in vanilla slot a Medium Laser can now fit a Large Laser. Every AC10 slot could now be spared for an AC20. This does not change the weight of the weapon, it makes the different kinds of slots more flexible. The slots are still type-restricted, so it doesn't make your Mech suddenly an Omni-Mech.

For example I can now take my starter Centurion and refit it Yen-Lo-Wang style... take out the LRM10 and AC10 and fit an AC20 into the arm. Or I can take a Champion and put a PPC in the Central Torso. You can take an Archer and outfit it with Large Lasers instead of mediums. As long as the weight is fitting, everything is possible.

Pro: it allows for a lot of more Mech builds, especially when you start a campaign and have fewer Mechs to choose from.

Con: it reduces the need to go out and search other variants of some mechs.

What do you think? Is this mod cheating, or is it more lore-friendly? In lore, you can refit a Mech almost completely (theoretically), if you're willing to invest months in the hangar and millions upon millions of credits. That's where the variants come from.

Not cheating. In Fact, it makes it a little more like it was supposed to be from the TT game.
