Workshop loadouts?
So i want to play a modded Sykrim on my Laptop and on my PC at home. But since both have dramatically different specs i want Skyrim on my laptop with some performance and minor change mods, and on my pc at home a fully modded Skyrim. This should be no problem for my save games, as i can just have different characters for mobile and at home gaming.

The big problem here is the steam workshop. Everytime i subscribe to a mod, it automatically installs and activates it. Is there a way so that i can make multiple loadouts and just pick the one i want? Or keep my mods on my laptop and pc separated?

Also Vortex Mod Manager is no solution to me, since i'm on linux and can't get it to run properly without instantly dying again.

Have you tried Mod Organizer 2 instead of Vortex? In top of less demanding features, it allows you to have separate mod load outs for different profiles. Vortex of course allows that as well, but MO2 does not actually install any links to Data folder (it uses pure virtual Data folder), which means that there is nothing to elevate, or Linux to struggle with.

I don't honestly know how well MO2 behaves with Linux, if all, but trying doesn't hurt.

If you want to use Workshop mods like this, then unsubscribe from them. That does not remove them from your Data folder. It just removes autoupdate feature, which is problematic anyway for games that store script data to save files.

Or, just use Nexus to mod both games. They never autoupdate, unless you specifically update the file yourself.

Yes i actually tried to install it, the install script dies on me everytime, because the mo2 setup is unable to detect any game and that's the moment the lutris install script for mo2 just dies.

Also, how should i use Nexus, if Nexus isn't around anymore and got replaced by vortex? Also like i said, i am on linux, vortex/nexus does not really work on here as far as i at least got.

That's interesting. Sounds like there could be some registry issue. If not, then there might be some third party application - most likely security application - that interferes with your games.

It's just software that was not explicitly made for linux, therefore we need to use compatibility software. And in my case, the install just doesn't continue most of the time because the install scripts can't manage to find my game, even with elevated privileges. That's why i've been searching for a in steam solution.

Let's see, if I can find someone more familiar with Linux to catch up with this.

Keep your load order short and install manually on your secondary machine. You'll save yourself the hassle of adding complexity upon complexity while trying to play on a less-than-ideal platform like Linux.

yeah thanks for the answer, but i still have to start steam to play skyrim so on my second machine it will update the workshop data, if i want or not, i can't hinder steam from doing that.

well then it's about time to get a "steam free" version of the game for my small laptop. but thanks for the help anyways (:

Steam won't update anything if you set it to offline mode.
