Now, PGI always COULD take the time to create a more streamline standalone editor along the lines of what Hat In Time did, which is an Unreal game that has an editor available on Steam, and we would all love if they did that, heck we want them to for better and broader modding ability. But they have plainly stated that is also a no go, they're not going to do it.
So don't mistake the reactions you get for not wanting the game to succeed, we want the game to do as well as it possibly can. The negativity comes from the fact that PGI themselves have already stonewalled the idea and confirmed their refusal on the matter.
I'm pretty sure Valve will be harvesting and selling our data as well. Most big corporations will do anything to make a buck.
