How do I open a sample MOD ?
It should be a piece of cake to open a sample MOD but I fail to do so . So please advice me , am I missing something or is this a problem with my installation ? (I have two different versions of Surviving Mars installed on same machine , old version from GOG and new version via Steam)

What I am trying to do is to open the sample MODs in the GOG game version.
I have copied the sample files from Surviving Mars\ModTools\Samples folder into the Surviving Mars/Mods folder , both I copied it all into a new Mods folder and also tried taking the Mods folder from the Surviving Mars\ModTools\Samples folder and copying it into the Surviving Mars folder and at the same time tried dropping the Assets folder into the Surviving Mars folder
At last I also tried to copy the Mods folder from the sample folder of the Steam version into the Surviving Mars Steam version folder in case that my GOG version start of Mod Editor looked there for some reason !

Last but not least I tried the same procedure using the Steam version MOD Editor !

But no matter what I did it does not show any sample Mods in any of the MOD Editors neither by itself nor by using search in MOD Editor !

I am a bit frustrated since it at a glance would appear that it should be quite easy to get the editor to show and load the sample MODs but I can not get the editors to show the darn sample mods !

P.S.
Path info for where to place MOD samples were taken from the Surviving Mars\ModTools\Docs\index.md HTML file

Do you subscribe to the (outdated) versions already posted of these sample mods?

Regardless of using GOG version or Steam version, there's only one %appdata% path. Which is also where the Save games are.
Do you tend to switch platforms when you play? And have different Saves for different platforms?
Or, you rename the folder manually each time you switch?

So, you never stated, without manually copying the folder+files over from the install-path/ModTools/Samples to the appdata path, and clicking on the Mod Editor in the game, what actually happens? Nothing? The Editor doesn't load at all? The index html file also never loaded in the default browser?

(ETA: oh, there's an edit since I last load this page...) So, I see now the Mod Editor starts up blank?

I'd suggest clearing out the \AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars folder totally by zipping it up, store the archive in a save place and then deleting or renaming that. So, when you next launch the game, the game will create a fresh one. Start the Mod Editor then. And report back what happens.

Oh, and I'm assuming this is on Windows? or MacOS?
Post the full path to the Surviving Mars/Mods folder you copied the samples into.

I am so sorry for all your trouble , but also I am very grateful for your generous amount of help !
I immediately spotted my mistake reading your post and I must confess that I feel a bit shameful .
Not having perfect eyesight I read folder as being the Surviving Mars folder *+* the mistake were amplified by the fact that the ModTools is in the folder + though I have some experience programming in general then with respect to MODding in the sense we talk about here then I have zero experience (Back in time I have MODded programs and stuff using Hex-editors which in turn again may have added to my mistaken confusion in this case)

Anyway , I am very grateful for your clear and concise guidance . Thank you very much ! very kind of you ! :golden:
