Mutually Exclusive Procedural Planets

For some reason, the Great Battle of the Universe addon noticeably retcons all of Betelgeuse's procedural planets after adding a fictional planet orbiting it according to the addon. Why is that?

Planets only generate around stars that do not have catalog planets. If you add a catalog planet to a star, any procedurally generated planets it previously had will no longer exist.

Why would adding a catalogued planet to a star with procedurally-generated planets (such as Betelgeuse) retcon its entire planetary system?

I already said: planets are not generated around stars with catalog planets. It would be a complete mess otherwise.

Is it even possible to add catalogued planets to stars with planets already orbiting them without retconning that star's original planets?

You would have to export the existing system's script and add the objects to the catalog.
