Popeye would be certainly cool in Rivals.
Every alcohol stock makes you slightly slower, or lighter, or floaties, i don't know. The drunken fist also receives this penalties but he also receives a slight increment in his strength. The character stocks can be represented as alcohol bubbles with the color of the fruit.
Once a character receives 5 alcohol stocks, the stocks are removed and the character enters in a drunken state for a few seconds. It has all the penalties of the stacked stocks, but, in addition, the directional inputs are reversed (and maybe the attack and special button too). Also, the fall speed of the character is faster.
The drunken fist character received a burst of speed during this state.
That is the gimmick. If two drunken fist characters are fighting each other, every character receives alcohol stocks from both fruits.
Some of the normal attacks could leave alcohol clouds. Those give alcohol stocks when touched, but they don't heal. Some of the attacks could remove one alcohol stock from the drunken fist character, like burping fire, or burping an alcohol cloud.
That is it
