Entuland's Trog Spawner
Hello there, here are the links and the details about how to build a simpler variation of the Trog Spawner depicted here:
https://youtu.be/tboAF3_ir34

Captain Bunneee was so amazing to dedicate an entire livestream of his to the building of this spawner:
https://youtu.be/z9E5yX-39M4

Captain Bunneee did a great job building it, it's pretty much flawless, and the minor things I would remark are actually going to be clarifications all along these instructions, thanks a lot Captain, seeing you building it helped me a lot!

Instructions for building the spawner

First of all, in order to have the spawner working properly it needs to be correctly aligned to the game's chunks, and the first cornerstone helps you achieving exactly that.

Refer to this screenshot to understand how each part should be placed:

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1267982010
The above Startup Guide must be placed exactly at the South West corner of a claim over the ocean, at surface level (replacing one water block) and it must head East (the first image above should help you fully understanding that).

The cornerstone goes directly into the water, where Captain Bunneee placed the stone slab. This will ensure that the platform will be slightly closer to the water and it will be easier to place ladders.

In fact, keep some ladders handy and stick them to the side of a platform if you happen to fall down while building it, they will not interfere with your build.

If you're a PRO player and you want to take off from water just swim forward aiming slightly higher than the horizon line and spam the G key :P

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1267983516
Once you've built the guide place cornerstone #2 on the Stone block at its end, this cornerstone heads North.

This Section contains both the TPs that compose the trap. Do not delay the placement of these TPs or of the corrupted water, do this straight away in section #2, so that any Trog that spawns will go directly into the trap. Also, do not be afraid of corrupted water spilling out, it will not, you'll be able to place the Iron Bars safely around it.

If you're on normal gravity world you may find yourself stuck in places that have a 3 blocks tall jump that you can't normally perform. In such a case you can either glide (if you're pro) or you can temporarily put a block at your feet to jump up, or you can remove the top blocks and reduce the jump to 2 blocks, for filling it back when you're on the other side.

If you're on a hostile mobs world you may want to build this spawner during the night, or simply push mobs into the water until you have it completed - when it's done, the Red Wood Walls platform in the middle will be a safe place, assuming you don't get too close to the trogs in the trap :P

Cornerstone #3 again goes on a Stone block, this time it's on the East end of section #2, and must be placed heading East.

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1267986092
Cornerstone #4 goes on the Stone block North of section #2, heading North

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1267987612
Finally, cornerstone #5 goes on the East Stone block of section 4, heading East.

If you did everything correctly you should have put only ONE Cactus block, cause all sections overlap of a single plane of blocks (exception made for the Startup Guide cornerstone, of course). Since the last 4 cornserstones overlap, if you simply sum the blocks required by the blueprints you may end up with slightly more blocks than necessary for the build. That's not a big deal, cause it's just a few canyon blocks, some Red Wood Walls, a handful of Cactus blocks and just 2 Iron Bars.

Once you're done building everything you can add ladders from platforms down to the water (you can do this also during the building phase), to ease getting back on the spawner in case you fall down, and you should also remove all the narrow Red Wood Wall blocks passages ending in a Stone block to avoid mobs jumping on them instead of heading towards the trap.

Hope the above will work flawlessly for anyone building it, and feel free to ping me if you want me to come to your world and make sure you place it correctly, cause placing it wrong may reduce the spawn rate or completely stop Trogs from spawning at all.

Optional counting variation
As requested by samson7770, I've added a new BP for the counting variation:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1395182889
In order to simplify its construction (and because the version I depicted in the video had a different approach for the passages connecting platforms) I've built this on a fresh build of the published spawner.

Remove the teleporters and the trap from the existing central Red Wood Walls platform and place the new cornerstone against the middle of the 2-blocks-wide passage (so that the new platform will match with the old one, see screenshots in the BP page) then start building it. You'll just need a few wooden fences, one wooden fence gate, one sensor, one switch and one arc sign in addition to the teleporters and the trap you just dismantled.

Important: spawn rate of trogs!
Trogs prefer early morning to spawn, about from 6 to 11 AM, so the best way to get a lot of trogs is to simply stay there in the middle of the Red Wood Walls platform and sleep to get early morning, then wait about 5 minutes for the wave of spawns to stop and sleep twice again to trigger a new wave of spawns. If you cannot change the time of day (most likely if you're on a populated server with lots of people around) then the best option is to leave the area completely (teleport away) and do something else somewhere else, then teleport back to the spawner: I've seen trogs spawning at any time of day, even in the late afternoon, the only important thing seems to be that you give the game some time to unload that area and force a full reloading of it when you come back.

Hey there auntie! I was thinking about you just a few minutes ago :) Could you remind me the name of your world? Was that Happytown? Glad to know you're going to build it, thanks :)

Happytown 3.0 is the full name.

Thor, I tried messaging you with no luck... not sure if yours was a question about the spawner at all.

@Saint: thanks, late thanks, but thanks :P

Can the same be done with corruption?

Absolutely yes. If you see the most recent streaming from Playful, the corruption spawner they show there on Playfulverse works just in the same way. In that particular case I made 9 claims of corrupted stone and corrupted dirt, covered with the same amount of glass slabs way up in the sky to keep it dark during the whole day and have it working all the time, and in addition to that, a floating platform with three separate traps and some machinery to switch between "autokill" and "choose your victim" modes. It's easier if you simply go there at Playfulverse, go to my TS and take one of the teleporters there, you can see both spawners for yourself.

I will check it out and ask here if i have more questions. Thanks :)

hey Entuland, I built your spawner! :) Though I probably need to shift my location..

Hello there Captain Bunneee, we already interacted about some details there in the video, here I just wanted to thank you again for showcasing the building of the spawner and also let you know that the video can't be seen directly from the forums, embedding disabled - maybe that was on purpose, maybe not, but in any case, I'm adding it to the main post :P
thanks for telling me about the embeddng is disabled.. I have since enabled it. So as I mentioned on the YouTube comment, I managed to get it working as intended by your advice to switch day to day.

putting a chest and a bed on the centre redwood wall platform gave me around 12-19 trog horns per day..

Great, so people can see it directly on this page if they so prefer :) I've added some little details to help people out in building it, your streaming was invaluable to help in that - it's not hard to build this, but it's not even trivial, due to the actual location and to the distance from the water.

I have built this spawner and it works but it only seems to spawn trogs between about 06:30 and 08:30. If I teleport after 08:30 no trogs will spawn no matter how long I stay - at least until the next day at about 06:30. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this to be expected or is there something else I can do to encourage trog spawning throughout the day? I can see how the trogs are shepherded to the kill zone and the need to use different coloured sandstone and canyonstone blocks to encourage spawning but I do not understand the significance of the mineral water pools - what is their function? Thanks in advance for any help or comments

The mineral water actually increases the spawn rate, compared to chunks made with only canyon blocks, this information has been taken from an old post that reported the actual requirements for trogs to spawn used by the game - that post is somewhat old (about two years or so, if my memory serves well) but seem to work just as fine today.

The fact that I'm using different types is just to collect resources from canyons in a balanced manner, I could have used any of those types alone, it would have worked just as fine I believe.

The trogs actually prefer the first hours of the morning, but in my experience they continue spawning for at least 5 minutes, in different waves (that is, from about 6 to about 11 AM of in-game time). The best option to have them spawning again is to simply sleep and call morning again, but if you cannot sleep you should try going to another area where mobs spawn and spend some minutes there, far away from the spawner, then going back to the trog spawner. Can't be sure of it, but normally that seems to trigger spawning again.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Your comments confirm what I was begining to believe. I will move on to try and try to spawn some different mobs. Your spawner has inspired me to try other methods "outsie the box". Thank you for sharing your insights.
