Opinion on a concept I'm thinking of putting in a mod...
So, I've been thinking about creating a mod that adds some classes to the game... two of the classes use a new resource I've created called 'Flux', and I want to know if it sounds like something that would work well as a resource.

Flux is an arcane resource, that mechanically speaking is somewhere between positive/negative energy and paradox. The way it works is this:

1. When resting or outside of combat for a while, a character's flux decreases.

2. When flux bypasses a character's flux cap (determined by willpower), they suffer from a burnout, which has a dramatic effect (that I've yet to decide on so far, but it'd be more brute-force than the effects from paradox) and disables all flux-dependant abilities for a while.

3. Flux gradually increases in combat; many abilities cause it to build up faster, and a few discharge it.

4. Certain abilities require the user to have a certain minimum flux before activating them.

5. Flux-based sustains generally increase flux buildup rate, rather than increasing minimum flux.

The general flavor of this resource is a person infused with a sort of 'living spell'. If they over-use it and don't control it well enough, they'll suffer a backlash.

The first class I came up with for this is the Fluxcaster (wonderful name, I know), a spellcaster with one spell that they can cast in a million different ways, so to speak. Their main spell is a simple energy bolt that increases their flux (along with an energy bolt barrage and other abilities of that nature that also increase flux). They also have 'shapings' which modify the energy bolt in some way, and decrease flux. So, in order to keep their flux under control, they have to use the shapings pretty regularly and thus constantly change what element/attack shape they're using. They do have the advantage of the shapings sort of 'slotting in' to the cast time of the energy bolt, allowing them to do both in one turn pretty easily.

So, long story short, does this sound like a workable resource? Or is it too close to Paradox?

I'm also having a little trouble with the scaling; right now the basic 'energy bolt' technique builds up 10 flux (on top of a default 10 per turn, which goes up with spellpower and down with mindpower (actual formula is 10^(spellpower/mindpower))), and the flux cap is equal to 500 + 50*level. Which... seems like it might be a bit too generous, while at the same time not scaling well... Would something more like 100 + 10*willpower be better maybe? This is probably just something I'd have to tweak in testing.
