I'm not an expert on what is available for the Mac but I'm guessing that you'll need something like Boot Camp so that you can run Windows, to use most modding tools. You won't necessarily need all that if you want to simply reskin an existing mask, but it is practical to be able to extract the original texture to start with (with KotOR Tool). I know little of creating truely new models, I know it used to involve a program called mdlops, but that might have been just to get the correct format for the game, so likely also a 3D modeling program to edit/make the model.
First you need KotOR Tool by Fred Tetra, should be easy to find on Google. I made a guide here on Steam on how to fix it not being able to recognize the game's location, I hope that helps.
To find a skin in KotOR Tool you go to ERF's > Texture Packs, then all the stuff in swpc_tex_gui.erf is Graphical User Interface stuff, item icons, player portraits etc.
The difference between the other folders has to do with the level of detail, working with stuff in the first one (swpc_tex_tpa.erf) is fine to make a reskin (i never bothered with the others). The other folders are for medium and far distance, this is to help with game's performance. Now you need to find and export the texture you want to edit, for testing purposes i suggest you export to the steam game's override folder so you can just launch the game to see your changes (making a steam mod is another story). Now you can edit that exported Targa image with Photoshop or a similar program, and test it by launching your game.
There are a lot of files and I assumed they would be labled as like robe_13 or something like that but it seems to be a lot of letters, numbers, and underscores. I figured I could just start opening files that seemed like they would be it but found nothing too interesting since I want to manipulate player clothes.
This is a screenshot of where I am right now.

I opened each letter trying to find something that had "robe" in the name. Am I just blind an missed it somewhere or am I looking in the wrong spot for the wrong thing?
Player - Female - Body - Model N (Jedi Master Robe) - Texture variation 12
That the jedi master robes use model N is pretty much something you can't look up. You can see in appearances.2da in column modeln that the actual 3d body model is PMBNM/PFBNM and in the column texn that the texture starts with PFBN, even for males. That it is texture 12 you can look up in the item blueprint a_robe_15.uti (BIFs -> templates.bif -> Blueprint, Item).
Most of the time it's easiest to just go through the textures in swpc_tex_tpa.erf, I guess looking for this one was tricky because of the lack of a male one.
- Are you sure that you don't have that skipping and crashing without using that mod?
- Can you give a link to the mod?
It's too bad that the lucasforums are gone, looks like they used that to discuss bugs and things.
I do see this under installation instructions, which looks important and might give a clue:
"For steam users, it will be something like : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Knights of the Old Republic II"
I'm not sure what the folder structure is that is in the download but it looks like you can't get away with throwing everything in the override folder (judging from the uninstall instructions).
"NOTE : This mod is not designed to work with other ones. I recommend you remove all other Kotor2 mods before installing this one."
That looks important, since you mention "adding the mods again".
Sorry no definite answer, but hopefully this helps to track down the problem.
The game generally works fine, but whenever i try to view a holo log on Peragus, it crashes. I was able to just avoid them for a while, but i have to view the Maintenance Officers log in order to progress the story, so now i'm stuck. I dont believe its any kind of problem with my PCs capabilities, i probably just messed up with the mods, cant figure out how to fix them though. Can you please help me through this?
2 people reported the same problem on my Head & Party Mod v0.2 (which is largely the same mod). So I tested Peragus again after that, playing as the security officer that's actually in those holo logs, I was unable to recreate any problem. It could still very well be my mod that's causing it for you but unfortunately I'm pretty much out of ideas, which only leaves the following:
- Did you follow the TSLRCM steps that are in my mods description? (I also made a Steam guide with some more details)
- Are you running the latest Steam version (1.8.5) of TSLRCM?
- Did you try without Hak Pad?
I just took a look at the Hak Pad's files, I don't see any obvious files that could conflict.
Maybe someone else has a fresh perspective, this might not be the best place to get noticed though.
