Even if there were incrimental portions fractioned to quarter pieces of the track, it would still be easier to compare multiple vehicles' characteristics based on individual parts of whatever track one would be using to get the desired information sought as opposed to restarting every time. If a person were to factor things based on track performances for example, this simple detail could save some time as opposed to waiting for the second third of the test track for instance. Naturally down to the second would be easiest to get data (for the player), however to be fair, I have barely a guess as to what kind of difficulty this detail would actually cause for those to whom this application would concern.
