Blender to VDE: Questions
I don’t have my Vive yet, so I can’t test these things, but I am working on an environment for Virtual Desktop Environment Editor (VDE) in Blender. I had some questions on the way Blender functions and how this translates to VDE.

1. Do linked duplicates show up normally (as opposed to normal duplication) in VDE. If so, I assume they import as additional polygons, correct?
2. Does the sub surf modifier translate well to VDE (and, again, I assume these are imported as additional polygons in VDE)?
3. I have never baked in lights using Blender, is this a straight forward process that I can just follow a tutorial for (such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOqwwCTfNgk ) or is the process for exporting for VDE a bit more nuanced?

Thanks in advance for any help!

1 - I believe they will show up as additional polygons.
2 - The sub surf modifier will be applied on export (if you have that object selected)
3 - It would normally be straightforward to bake in Blender, however, you'll likely be needing to use a mix of the "cycles render" engine and "blender render" engine. I'll be releasing a comprehensive tutorial in the next few days. In the meantime, definitely check out that baking tutorial. Since you'll be working in cycles, please watch this one too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB09T--_ZvU

Hey, did you ever create your tutorial?
I watched the tutorial but it sounds like it's kind of a permenent action. I was imagining doing a lot of moving and scaling of objects after viewing it in VR and getting a better sense of the scene. With the baking it looks like once you do it, it's done.
I'm looking forward to seeing your demonstration on the process and hopefully it will clear up some of these issues! :-)

I'm a bit late on making the tutorial, so you didn't miss anything. Making it today!

Where will you post the tutorial when it is done, will it be on the current "Guide" page with that basic overview?

I live in Alberta and have been dealing with the Fort McMurray fires. Sorry, many important things have been temporarily put on hold. Soon.

I have found this full-scene-baking tool called BakeTool that sounds like it would be perfect for the VDE process. (Although I'm still not totally sure what the process would be)
PS: Night, that is no problem and I hope you are able to manage your situation and stay safe over there.
