I don't think we should report the S3 standalone versions. They require S3&K after all and they're different enough to S3C (Especially when it comes to glitches and exploits).

Unfortunately, the only version of Sonic 3 sega is selling is S3&K, so this means it has to be reported. S3C however is a valid mod and it does have a sonic 3 option.

I don't think even SEGA cares about people uploading a objectively worse version of S3&K but we can always get in touch with them on twitter and facebook I guess?

I mean, you could very well just grab S3&K, change a few things here and there and dummy out the lock on, which would result in S&K, just like the standalone ROM. Why would that be more "legal" than outright uploading the S&K ROM? It's basically the same thing.

S3C already has a Sonic and Knuckles option. and before you say it, a blue sphere option too.

really, i don't see why sonic 3 and sonic & knuckles should be reported, you already paid for the two games with sonic 3 & knuckles. you can easily access sonic & knuckles through debug mode by spawning a ton of super monitors and hitting all of them at once, then pressing start.

S3C also has a TON of bugfixes and tweaks even if you play it on S&K mode. They're simply not the "same" game. Some people just want to have legal access to the originals.

I'm pretty sure legally you can't even release Japanese versions outside of Japan, which drews derivative work like translations illegal too. So if you release a hack of US version while reside in EU (thus your game ROM is under EU publishing rights) - it's illegal. Also you can't release others hacks, because it's illegal - the only thing you can legally mod is your own ROM that YOU have on YOUR pc (as backup copy). We are all pretending we aren't doing something illegal, but we all do. Whole workshop thing.
You are tilting at windmills, hypocrite. It's ALL grey area. Sega allowed us to do stuff and that's it, it doesn't make it legal. They just said that they won't send lawyers to your home. As long it's their IPs. See, Alien Soldier japanese version is illegal. Streets of Rage 3 translation from japan is illegal. Yet they are there and you are perfectly fine with that. On the other hand homebrew Duke Nukem is absolutely legal as long as it's not sold. Meanwhile I'll go upload some free game.

Both games can be played as somewhat stand alones thanks to Sonic 3 Complete as it is a valid mod.

I was the one that uploaded this and I did that because you need both games to play sonic 3 & knuckles in the first place, you could do so as a feature called lockon where you could take the sonic 3 off the top of the cart to play it as sonic & knuckles or you could play sonic 3 standalone.

Plus you need to own the game to play them, it's not like I am giving away games.

Mods don't always work right, and there was bug fixes in that mod that are not in the final version or Sonic 3 making this the way to go for glitch runs. Sonic 3 runs on a older version of the engine and sonic 3&K is a new version.
