Using GIMP Completely Screws up the Base Gradient Template and renders them virtually unusable.
As the title suggests, being poor, I use GIMP to try to process the models of everything. Images and everything goes through fine, only needing little to no adjustments, but then if I try Base Gradients, the entire template is damaged beyond repair. Even the preview shows what is right and then it screws it up to a black with one green stripe mess. Anyone else have this issue?

I'll have to talk to Joakim about a gimp friendly version of the Templates it seems. Thank you for mentioning it.

Use Photoshop CS2. It's free on Adobe's website. That's what the devs used on the tutorial stream.

Adobe have provided the entire Creative Suite 2, free of charge. I would recommend CS2 over GIMP or Paint.net any day.

Good luck with your skin making!

That link asks for login in or registration. If that's the only way to get cs2...nope.

It does get annoying to make an account for CS so I just used gimp AND realized that I had to fiddle with the templates to get them to look right, you will have to do that if you want to use GIMP, Not sure about Paint.net tho... havent tried that with the templates yet

Hey, I'm using GIMP too and it does look like it doesn't render the file well, but after messing around a little, it seem to me to be an issue of layer visibility.

After playing with the file a little (layers visibility mainly, don't think I did anything else), I was able to get an usable version of the file in GIMP, and even export an usable TGA. With the TGA file, I was successful in applying it to a few guns in the weapon skin editor, with convincing results.

I put both the gimp file and TGA on deviantart's sta.sh (pretty much the same as dropbox or google drive), in case anyone would prefer to use (or get started with) those files I rendered usable with gimp. (only difference I can remember between these files and those on OVK's website is format and layer visibility)

GIMP (.xcf) file: http://sta.sh/01pkrmpu1hn6
TGA file: http://sta.sh/0362x2pybvw

Though, I should add I haven't yet used the GIMP file as a base to re-color any weapon, so I have no idea how well that would work (no idea if my fix would work when actually changing the colors and stuff).

(btw, I'm using gimp v. 2.8.14 with a few plug-ins, in case it could be relevant somehow)

Hope it helps!

Should help anyone who stumbles into this thread, I talked to Joakim just before his holiday break thing so hopefully they update the layering to make it more gimp friendly soon/ish/maybe
