[Discussion] .obj to .smd converter
The most complete .smd exporter for 3ds max is limited to v9 through 2012, and some people might not want to dig up and register such an old version of 3ds max, or simply just want to use another program (I know I want to use Wings3d / Silo3d without having to go through 3ds max). To this end, I have given some thought to writing a simple (no mesh optimization features) conversion tool.

The tool would be a command line program taking an .obj file as input, parsing relevant data (vertices, faces, uv coordinates, parenting, and skinning data) and exporting it as a .smd file, ready to be run through studiomdl.

Is there any interest in such a tool?

I have found that the WallWorm SMD Exporter does work with 3DS Max 2015 (just need to edit some text in the output files for textures to work).
