Help understanding how to use workshop segment templates
I feel like I may be going about this the hard way. I have a ship on a server, and I'd like to add some of the greebles I've seen in the Segment Templates category to it.

But the greebles are all laid out on a large platform. The only way I can figure out how to get them onto my ship is to start a Creative SP world, place the whole greeble structure into the world, then select the blocks of the greeble and copy it to the clipboard. Then, save the selected blocks as a new template item.

Is there a better way to do this?

Edit: Example of the workshop item I'm talking about:

Creative mode or not, I'd add a temporary beam or girder to my ship, sticking out a fair bit so as to not interfere.
Then go to the "saved designs" window, copy the parts collection (the entire palette) to the clipboard and paste it to the ship so I have it available, and then proceed as you described, copying the bits and pieces I want until I'm done. Then disable "safe mode" and delete the temporary beam; this gets rid of the temporary structure as well. Re-enable safe mode, and enjoy the newly-greebled ship.

Just be careful to click "copy design to clipboard", not "apply design" ;)
Ctrl-z undoes, just in case...
