Is there any way to work out what is causing my game to crash?
When I'm exploring the game will crash randomly sometimes. I have no clue what it could be.

I have sound mods, increased patrols, graphic mods and monster mods.
Could be any of those.

But is there a crash log or something that would reference something that would point me in the right direction to the culprit?

There is Papyrus log, but it is not exactly a crash log. You can use it to check possible stack dumps, but it usually doesn't record script that caused the crash - if it even was a script that caused the crash. It is a bit hard to read. I have started Skyrim Papyrus logs over a decade and still have to be careful while making conclusions over it.

Old Skryim has several memory management issues. Have you tried following?
- Activating SKSE memory tweak
- Activating ENboost

You can find instructions from my pinned topic:
