easy fix go to plateup in your library and head to the controller tab and turn OFF the steam input
(might have to connect the controller for the tab to show up)

P.S if you want to try and avoid this for other games, head to steam settings and in the controllers tab choose steam input enabled only in games without controller support instead of always turned on
