That also appears to require a third-party program. I was looking for a method of manually merging the mod files with the game files, without the use of a third-party program.
I actually looked this up a while ago, and I swear I found a method online... but I can't find it again, hence why I'm asking here.
Went hunting for the guide because I kind of remembered seeing it too. Found the one I rembered: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=233428613 Might work with small, simple mods. YMMV.
However, the more mods you seek to play with, and depending on their size/content, increases the chance of your game reloading/crashing/becoming unplayable
furthermore, when you attempt to save your game and reload it with the same players, either from start screen or in-game, there are always map/geographical errors
