Upgrading units that are already out

I want to transport or upgrade units that were already out of the factory - is it possible?

1) Place a payload conveyor next to the building you want the unit to go into
2) Ctrl + Left Click on the unit to "pilot" it
3) Move the unit onto the payload conveyor
4) Ctrl + Left Click on the conveyor and the unit will "enter" it and be moved into the building.
