https://skaterift.com/skaterift/img/rail.svg
it considers any edges with a sharp angle (around 45 degrees or more) as a grind target. if it finds multiple near eachother (within a 0.4m range or so), it merges them together at the center
so for a rail, you want a 3 sided mesh with sharp corners, and no faces on the underneath. that way it fuses them in the top center where the white arrow is. thats where it will stick you to.
as for the material, only thing it cares about is that its got the 'grind target' flag enabled.
hope that helps
