people telling others to 'do it themselves' when it comes with mod requests
i just saw this part of the discussions page and i just kinda wanna state my opinions with the mod requests, mainly about comments telling them to do it themselves.

so i can understand the part of somebody spending their time just do a mod request for free if it is something ambitious like a new campaign/slugcat with a lot of custom abilities, new region or two but not with something simple like a quality of life change. its also not like commissions where it will only be used by one person/game or the commissioner will now own the product, multiple people will get to use the mod and the mod creator can publish it as their own.

tldr for this part: i understand it for ambitous mods with a lot of content, but not for simple ones. mod requests are also not commissions

for the 'do it yourself' ermmm..
unless it takes over a month to make/ the requester knows how to code already/ the requester is willing to learn how to code, i dont think this is a very good suggestion? it takes months/years to learn skills like coding. i have done art for over 2 years and im kind of good at it, i can only imagine it would be harder for coding because unlike art, if you made a mistake you can just roll with it but for coding chances are your entire piece of code will not work/work halfway. I know troubleshooting code is easier with the logs and print () command but its still sanity reducing for those 40% amount of errors that refuse to fix itself. meanwhile for modders they can make a very simple mod in maybe a day or a week during their free time, for us normies it would take about a month or two (majority spent learning the damn language). using resources like the modding wiki will definetly help a little. the simple mod thing is just an example, for stuff bigger stuff like campaigns, i dont really know how long it would take, maybe 3 to 6 months for non coders (please correct me on this)

tldr for this part: making a simple mod ourselves will take 1 month because we need to learn how to code, for modders it would take a few days

related opinions i couldnt fit anywhere else
nothing wrong with not wanting/not having enough time to do a mod request! id do them in my free time if possible if i could code
nothing wrong with posting a mod request either, worst case scenario you'll waste 1 to 2 minutes of your day.

thanks for reading, feel free to state your opinions in the comments/ fact check

It takes a lot longer than one month to make a mod, even for experienced coders.

Stop expecting other people to take up passion projects that you yourself don't have the motivation for.

You're an artist so let me use this comparison
Imagine a drawing forum but instead of actual artists it's filled with thousands of posts of lazy people requesting others to make artwork for them for free whilst being to lazy to even attempt trying or learning drawing themselves because theyre busy with middle school and "oh drawing is hard"
And this artwork they want takes MONTHS maybe even YEARS of your time. Which could be spent working for a company that pays your or working on actual contracts that pay you to survive.

Mods aren't something programmers can just "slap out in a few days" They are passion projects they undertake that take months of their time, expecting someone to spend weeks or months making some 14 year old's OC request for "Reginal the Scugcat!!!!11!" when the OC creator themselves are unwilling to even learn art or programming of any kind is unrealistic and cringe.

If people want to see something created they should go out and create it themselves, not expect someone else to do it for them for free

thats fair, i completely understand and mentioned it for the mods that take months and years to make like campaigns. if theyre really passionate about a slugcat/campaign and have the motivation and time, then yes i do think they should learn coding. the month timeframe was for a simple mod like a quality of life feature (something like the faster gates mod, if this mod still toke more than a month let me know!)
i do not expect anybody to create somebody's else oc/region, that i expect people shouldnt post or they learn coding themselves (especially if they have a custom campaign, complex abilities and regions)
ive already mentioned some of your points in the first piece of text but ill add it to the second now
some people also just dont like coding, its not for them and they dont enjoy doing it
in summary i completely agree with it if its something very ambitious but if its something very simple that can be created during a modder's freetime for fun or just wanna practice their skills i dont think that argument is valid especially if said requester dosent like to code

Nobody is going to do stuff for you for free, ideas come and go but skill and technical applications are scarce these days, without an actual application an idea is as worth as the paper is written on. Telling modders to do ♥♥♥♥ for you for free is devaluing their skill and knowledge about how the game works and pretty much insulting them.

Same way you dont go to a musician or a painter and ask them to do free ♥♥♥♥ for you, if you have a true request use the bounty board and use your dabloons to convince somebody but just dont beg arround or casually drop an idea which probably 20 ppl already had in the past.

Most modders arent even encouraged by money and would rather do quality stuff for free to help another modder in need than accept money from random users, its mostly reputation driven.

Most of the time modders will help you with anything you need while making it yourself but wont put an effor to make your work for you because you arent willing to learn.
