Formula Overhaul WIP
So I decided to learn how this game works by using the wonderful provided tutorial Formula E-alike car. Colour coded, lots of helpful windows to the internals, not cramped As someone who used to develop racing sims and mods for racing sims I love messing around with stuff like this and my exploration quickly transformed in to a project to overhaul the car. As it was built to have giant panel gaps and be accessible there was a lot of room for improvement on the aesthetics, handling and functionality. Over the next few days I spent mental recharge and downtime messing around with this project and was astonished by the amount of experimentation, trial and error. In other words I had fun.

It'd be all too easy to just strip away components and such to make it lighter and to stick a huge engine in and crank up the grip however so I set myself the following restictions:

- I can't remove any functionality, lose gears or make something that will only work with invulnerability enabled or power draw disabled.

- I can't change the tyre grip levels or total power output.

- I want to close up all the obvious peepholes in to the interior and generally treat it as if aerodynamics was actually a thing simulated.

I'm currently waiting for a couple of extra features to be added with later patches (single-unit worm gears, inverted pulleys) before I publish it on the workshop because I believe I can improve it a bit more (features like LSD) with those but the project has reached a point where I'm basically happy with its fundamentals.

A highlight reel of the big changes:

- 23kg lighter than the original model. (622kg vs 645kg - this took a lot of doing given I was adding so much bodywork. The first prototype was 700kg.)

- A custom steering mechanism to reduce the mounting points from 3 units apart to only 1 and better resist bumps impacting angle.

- Uneven length suspension to keep the tyres flush under suspension load.

- Improved anti-roll and monoshock front suspension to make setup simpler.

- COG lower and closer to driver.

- Higher unloaded rideheight (1 unit) and lower loaded rideheight allowing for a firmer ride. (Ready for downforce, less squat and dive.)

- Narrower rear track (reduced by 2 units)

- Wider front track (1 unit)

- Shorter wheelbase (1 unit)

- Shorter overall (2 units)

- Modern digital HUD flattened steering wheel (See below)

- Totally not aesthetic extras like mirrors, wing elements and floor without holes in it.

- An increasingly horrifically cramped interior. (See below)
