Possibly a mod conflict? I suggest disabling all mods but this one and seeing if the issue is resolved.
If so, slowly add them back in one by one (or in small groups) to try to identify the other mod that is causing the conflict.

Even after disabling all other mods and verifying files,
Hm...
Side note: The "Toggle all" Button stops working after you add so many mods apparently, because I had a buttload that were still active after pressing it.
Never would have thought of the load order if no one told me lol. however, the problem wasn't those mods not being high enough on the list, it was other mods being too low, and moving the ones with the abyssal animals to below the problematic ones seems to have done the trick!
