Remove Taming Effectiveness Bonus Levels?
So I know some modders have moved on to Ascended now, but Evolved remains popular and still has a lot of life in it, plus given that there are now no more updates, more complex mods can be created without risk of breaking things. So with that in mind:

Has anybody made a mod which removes the level bonus gained from taming effectiveness? Or would such a mod even be possible?

I'm talking about the levels a creature gains when they wake up from being tamed, which are randomly assigned to stats based upon the effectiveness of the tame. It strikes me that in all of the game's mechanics, this singular aspect may perhaps be the most unbalanced element, which makes the lategame, high-level play much more boring than earlygame. Because the dino gets a massive boost to levels (which is further accentuated if the max wild level is high) it makes tamed dinos much more powerful than wild ones, meaning that when you have a high level tame of almost any species, survival against the wild creatures becomes trivial.

I've recently been considering a new playthrough where I use a maximum wild level of just 30, to keep tames and wild creatures much more balanced with each other, but still this level bonus would be a problem to that playthrough, making the game easier. And deliberately sitting punching every single creature I tame to reduce the effectiveness to 0 seems like a chore. Is there any mod out there which would make it possible to play without getting that level bonus even if taming effectiveness is high, and if none exists yet, would such a thing be doable?

Any assistance would be appreciated, thank you.

You can adjust stat boosts in the settings. Just put the tamed stat (and bonus stat) multipliers to basically zero and poof, your dino wont become stronger than wild ones.

Thanks for the response^^

I did actually consider that option before making this thread, however correct me if I'm wrong, but any adjustment to PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed would affect levels that the player pumps into the dino, not (or perhaps 'not just) bonus levels from the taming effectiveness? As far as I can see there is no way to split the two, and only have the levels from effectiveness be adjusted.

While setting it for all tamed levels would indeed ensure dinos do not get any more powerful, I'm afraid that isn't quite what I'm looking for. I would, if possible, like to keep the levels that players can pump into dinos, and for those to have an effect on stats. It's just the bonus ones which are randomly distributed at the moment of tame which I am trying to remove.

Here's a really basic mod to do what you want. It adds a default buff to all dinos that tweaks their status component to give them zero bonus levels from taming effectiveness. Only freshly spawned dinos receive default buffs though, so you'll either need to respawn all dinos or start over.

I've also started work on a more substantial mod that will enable server admins to tweak taming effectiveness to their preference while the game is running, but that one needs a little more time in the oven. I'll add a link to this post after it's uploaded.

Edit: Here's a WIP version of the "more substantial" mod. I removed the basic mod, so try this one instead.

Edit 2: The mod is now complete. You can subscribe to it at the link below. I'm leaving the previous workshop item up as an unlisted "beta" channel where I could test updates in the future, although I don't expect to make any further changes to the mod at this point in time.

Woah, when I posted this thread I just expected a bit of discussion about it all, didn't actually expect anyone would go so far as to make such a mod off the bat! :steamhappy: That's amazing, thank you very much for your work Carefree! Have a Steam profile award, and I'll have to take a look at that mod next chance I get. I'd also be interested in the other one you mentioned too when that is completed

It was my pleasure. If you have any problems, feel free to report them on the workshop page!
