I noticed the progression of modding in Half-life 2 Deathmatch culminated in low-grav, high-jump-rate servers with maps specifically designed with these gameplay modifications in mind.

They included very open, tall maps, complete with platforms and a means of acending/decending pretty quickly or with tricks. They could also be very, very long, focusing on sniping halls but with some means of counter. Anyone recall the "starwars" maps? Long sniping hall with two-way conveyvor system that transported you in the wide open, but really, really, fast.
