I learned all by myself by playing a lot and trying all the game options and features one at a time.
The important to know :
1 - Enable "Exprimental" mode in game options first to unlock the World advanced settings to create the world to your liking.
2 - Always disable ALL NPCs in the world on the very first time you create it, like the "economy" feature must never been enabled before adding planets because the NPC stations will not spawn on those if it was previously enabled = that must stay OFF the very first time you create the world.
3 - Planets are in the "Spawn items" menu Shift+F10 in creative mode.
4 - Learn how to use the Space Master tools, too because you will need it, test all options in the SM that is Alt+F10.
5 - Teleport in creative mode :
> F8 is the "Spectator" mode and must be enable in world advanced settings to use.
> F8 also named "Free build mode" that I use a lot when I am creating because we can go through walls and planet with it.
> Fly with the Spectator mode and hit Ctrl+Spacebar to teleport your character to the spectator position. + hit F6 to return to character
> We can teleport the spectator just by selecting a grid or planet or character form the Space Master menu Alt+F10, go to "entity list" to select and exit that menu.
I recommend to practice in a copy or new created world first and that will give you more and more XP every time you try
A few more things :
Do not use the "empty" world in custom cause this one is really empty so the NPC Stations willl not work in it.
Better use the "Red crashed ship" premade world if you want to add all planets manually tho it is possible by using the "Star System" premade world and add more planets.
Once I am done placing planets and making the solar system, how do I save it so that I can use it as a custom game mode?
But there are a lot of different respawn options we can create in this game, you could keep all the in-game planets so all can use the respawn ships and take time to choose/join a Faction you previously created so they can join to have access to specific Safe Zones with Medic Room on the other planets, they will see that Medic room in the respawn screen once in a Faction ...
OR
A bit more complex but doable :
You can use the respawn ships but you will have to paste your planet at the same coords where the in-game planets are cause the respawn ships will spawn only where the in-game planets are.
You may have a look at the save files, open with Windows Notepad to find the default planet coords and copy/paste to replace/change planet position in your custom world.
