Why are so many mods for this game so bad?
1) The tags are all over the place and I find unrelated mods way too often. Try searching for UI, the first thing that comes up is a character mod for some reason.
2) So many character mods that for integrity's sake shouldn't exist and more than anything, they clutter the workshop.
3) Some mods like infinite item mods could be made into one mod that is possible to tweak per item/object instead of downloading dozens of them for each item/object you want changed.
4) Stuff like extra large storage, deep freezing, storm cellar etc are often just cheap, unintuitive ideas just reusing existing mechanics more than anything, which is rather unfortunate.
5) There is little to nothing regarding UI and music adjustments, I was lucky to find a mod that changes Hamlet's UI back to what it used to be during Beta. Still nothing for changing some of the music back to what it was or the Temperate season and Claw Palm Tree hue.

The above does go for DST as well, though to a lesser extent. People tend to use client mods way more and those are typically ones that are very much useful for giving you more control in the game and not make things feel less tedious, and it's not like disabling them will break your world.

Oxygen Not Included doesn't suffer from so much garbage, most of the mods there are really great.

I'd also like to mention that for any mods that tweak balance, some more intuitive ideas could be done to change the balance and eliminate dumb metas. One example I can think of is tumbleweeds; instead of giving you random items, they could actually just give you a single piece of grass, and have another storage of size 1, meaning they could pick up an item they pass by if the storage is empty. You never know if you might find something weird stuck in a tumbleweed. This would make them more of a nuisance than a benefit, but that's the point.
