*WARNING*: There has been wave of false DMCA takedowns for Nintendo-related mods throughout several Workshops
Lately, since January 2024, Gmod, Tower Unite's, and Fraymakers's workshops have been affected by a slew of successful, yet fraudulent DMCA takedowns (which Steam Workshop has apathetically decided are legitimate despite their obviously fraudulent nature) that take advantage of the automated DMCA systems, similar to YouTube's abuseable DMCA system.

In Garry's Mod, the worst hit by the fraudulent DMCA waves, most affected mods are related to Nintendo IPs included well-known model imports such as Mario/Super Smash Bros./Pokemon ragdolls (which subscriptions for these addons are typically over 10k, sometimes over 50k) for posing scenes and YouTube videos or Nintendo playermodels. Not all IPs have been equally affected so far, but you'll never know.

I've made this warning in this workshop because Rivals of Aether has a wealth of Nintendo content that many people enjoy (me included) and this is my bet for spreading awareness of the situation and try to help people prepare for a potential targeting of the workshop for this game.

I hope anyone that is a Nintendo fan is at least aware of this situation and sees this post. Most modders aware of the situation have responded with unlisting their content out of fear their content will be targeted next, which is the least disruptive way to protect addons but it removes them from searches, which greatly hinders their discoverability. I have personally unlisted *every single addon I have created*, even the non-Nintendo ones. If you are targeted by false DMCA your content is removed (users also lose the content) and you cannot upload or update addons for a set period of time, which is highly disruptiuve for mod creators.

If you're a targeted mod creator, DO NOT RESPOND TO THE DMCA TAKEDOWNS. These typically involve disclosing private information to the one responsible for issuing the takedowns. You do not want to be giving this kind of information to fraudsters!

For more information see this thread in Gmod discussions ([PSA] Nintendo-related mods are being DMCA'd by a known fraudster), which is one of the longest threads in Gmod discussions:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/4000/discussions/5/4211497623308213915/?ctp=31

This issue has been ONGOING since January 2024 and has not been resolved due to Valve's miserable incompetence dealing with this issue. Backup your Nintendo content; they may disappear tomorrow if the fraudster comes across this workshop.

Apparently Aaron Peters might be an actual Nintendo employee.

Does he ignore the character if you say it's copyright by Nintendo, or does he just not care?

Wait, with how much power you say?
I've seen things like old goombas, koopas, shy guys...
But well, the thing that I'm having a "Toad" (that is a specific one and doesn't fit the original) makes me aware of this.

So... as far as I read, what I have to do is not respond to DMCA takedowns... I guess I can do that (if that happens in the first place lmao).

don't respond to dmca takedowns if they happen, because the claims are fradulent and will ask for your personal information

Been keeping up with this situation. Haven't seen much talk about it, but it's probably best people take this seriously in case it hits here too!

I had a thought, is it possible that non-Nintendo characters would get targeted because they have Nintendo content in them? E.g., the Patrick fighter I made is not from Nintendo, but he has an alt referencing a character that IS by Nintendo. And Bluey-Bot is an original character by SB-2749, but he throws (and destroys) a Nintendo Switch for his dair, soo...
