A start either will have the specific animals, or will have none. It's not possible to make it an option without making multiple starts.
But you cannot swap vanilla animals with humanoids in the character creation, cause vanilla animals are a totally different character system that is not compatible with humanoid characters.
To get animals there one must do like I did, take a humanoid armature and contort it into an animal shape and put an animal mesh on it. And then redo all 116 animations.
Thankfully I found out how to make custom starts, so doing all that can be dealt with simply. Thanks anyways!
