It is for newbies, as demonstrated by the poor quality maps they make with lots of inefficiencies in lighting and similar. That's why they are entire sets of videos and websites dedicated to explaining (such as that by TopHattWaffle) this terribly out-dated crash-happy tool.

If we ignore that it crashes every nanosecond and that it wasn't updated for 20 years, it's pretty decent software

It's more complicated than it should be...
Bee MOD is more fun to use than Hammer.

I never figured out a way to use Bee Mod to upload Portal BSP Maps to the Work Shop; and, unless I'm mistaken, Bee Mod NEEDS Hammer in order to function and compile the maps.

One day...(years ago)
I saw an update to Bee MOD.
Downloaded it...
Bee MOD didn't work after that update.

Tried various things...
Then I deleted the Bee MOD folder and tried to reinstall.
Didn't work :(

After a number of days, I had to let it go... :(
