Question about rustmap

I don't know how to word this. But how do I make the rust map for the car. Do I just export the UV layout of my car and paint the red green and blue and then combine them in like gimp or photoshop. I would appreciate the help because this is my first time doing this kind of stuff.

Well im not asking how to fix the rust in the actual game. I'm masking how to make the rustmap for the car. I am modding a car in to the game. To make the car I have to make the rustmap but I want to be sure I make it right and not waste time trying to figure it out myself. It's my first time modding so I have to be sure :).
