Intel 13th/14th Gen Major CPU Problems
As some of you who possibly follow the latest daily PC Tech news will already know for the past few months, Intel has major problems with its 13th and 14th Gen CPU’s, with degradation/oxidisation and degrading performance resulting in high failure rates. The cause is not ‘fully explained’ yet and no definite robust detailed statements from Intel on how they will help impacted users of the CPU’s concerned.
Major impact for Intel as their share price has fallen severely, as investors loose confidence in Intel’s ability to now produce reliable CPU’s. Intel has lost around 40 billion dollars over the past few days alone and now shedding employees in an effort to save money.
For those of you using one of their impacted 13th/14th Gen CPU’s, please check your Motherboard vendor for any updated drivers/BIOS you can apply, to at least reduce the higher voltage aspect which appears to be part of the problem that is causing some of the issues.
Intel will also be releasing a ‘Microcode’ CPU update around mid-August, they hope might address part of the problem and reduce the risk of CPU degradation to 13th/14th Gen CPU’s currently not showing signs of degradation.

Downloaded microcode for my MSI board yesterday. Installed the BIOS this morning. Still a bit early to be sure but the CPU 'appears' to be running a couple of degrees warmer.

Hello Glenn. These current BIOS/Microcode updates may be superseded by newer ones as time goes by, so keep checking periodically. Nobody knows for sure yet what the performance 'hit' will be, only time will answer that over the next year or so.
By the way, I had my original well intended informative post about all this under TSC General Discussions 'deleted' by admin, as not considered relevant and at first, given a 'Warning', but now after review, removed. I had apparently posted in the wrong forum section..
What a confused baffling world we all now live in.
Best.

And AI scares the hell out of me. But maybe this is not the place to talk about that!

Well, my new LG OLED TV was greeting me every time I walked into the room each new morning and then asking me if I wanted 'her' (very nice British voice) to turn on the TV for me and which Channel or TV App feature!
Turned that particular A.I feature off in settings. My little Dog did not like the TV talking to me either!

Just a quick reminder for everyone still running Window 10 on a PC that is not compatible with up-grading to Windows 11. It is now just under one year before Windows 10 reaches what Microsoft call 'End Of Life' and all 'free' security updates end on October 14th 2025. No further updates to the OS either.
If thinking of a new or secondhand Windows 11 compatible PC, don't leave it for too long, prices may well rise as world-wide demand grows over the coming year.
