Probably not what you are looking for, but could you build a gargoyle out of blocks, blueprint it, and use a projection table to scale it to size?

That's not going to work for what I was looking for in this case, but actually with a suitably modified version of the projector or projection table and suitable models, that might be a good way of presenting some artistic concepts for decorative or surprise purposes. :)
