Faceposer?
I noticed HL:A still uses logic_choreographed_scene and VCDs. I was wondering if the methods of creating choreographed scenes had changed since Source 1 and if it's still done in (a potentially updated version of) Faceposer. If so, where is Faceposer?

EDIT: It appears there is an updated Faceposer, an Icon for it exists different from the one found in the Source 1 SDK. Check in: game/core/tools/images/faceposer/appicon.ico

it still uses vcd files but I don't know if they still use logic_choreographed_scene. I did see an entity called scripted_scene in the files but it doesn't seem to exist in hammer.

logic_choregraphed_scene is used quite heavily in HL:A, the .vmap 'ending_choreo' is a good example of this and of course, it references .vcd files. I'm gonna assume Valve has a newer version of Faceposer they'll roll out as these tools are still in beta.

logic_choreographed_scene appears to play audio for the actors, but not any gestures or animations. I haven't worked with hammer in source 1, so i don't know if that is how it is supposed to behave.

Yeah it does seem bugged. logic_choreographed_scene in Source 1 let you play VCDs that were made in Faceposer, they'd contain facial flexes, when to fire certain animations/map events and what sounds to play. They required a file called scenes.image to be compiled inside of Faceposer to playback in-engine. I'm not sure how it works in Source 2 but I'm gonna guess we need the ability to compile our own scenes.image again for it function properly in workshop mods.

hopefully they fix this, I don't want this to end up in a permanent broken state.

I hope so too. Valve did say some more tools were on the way. Hoping Faceposer is one of them.

So like, sorry for necro but did valve ever release those tools or was that just something that was said?

No, it seems that Valve is fine with S&box taking over and giving us a more polished and feature complete Source 2 toolkit.
