WASD without a mod or AutoHotKey
This post will be off page 1 in a couple of days, but hopefully somebody searching for the topic will find it in the future.

Go here to learn how to use Microsoft PowerTools to temporarily remap the WASD keys to up, down, etc:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcV68OU7kAU

(Follow his suggestion to pin Microsoft PowerTools to your taskbar for easy access.)

WASD mods here are old, not updated, and suspiciously undocumented (usually a sign of shoddy work). AutoHotKey is for brainiacs who can figure it out, usually a requirement when a script doesn't work and needs the tweaking suggested up front by the author!

Plus the AHK developers nuked all of those version 1 scripts that are still out there when they upgraded the program to version 2. It is unclear to me whether you can have both versions installed.

Instead, view this video and follow the tips if you want WASD map movement. [He goes on to describe how you can still have a shortcut for Research, "W" by default but remapped to "Up," by mapping yet another key to register as "W" in the game.]

A couple of caveats or warnings, if you will: the keys reassigned by PowerTools Keyboard Manager will remain in effect after you exit the game; you have to remember to turn off Keyboard Manager to restore normal key functioning.

Also, the good news is, PowerTools Keyboard Manager will remember the remapped keys for next time. The bad news is, there is only one set of remapped keys to turn on and off. So, if you ever want keyboard "W" to do something else in another context, you have to edit it accordingly. It would be great if you could store multiple profiles to choose from in Keyboard Manager, but that is not the case.
