BUG: Mods don't update
This issue has been the bane of workshop creators for ages.

When you update a mod, it doesn't update in the main game.

Eg, I updated my mod REBALANCE 3 hours ago, and Steam has downloaded the new version, but the game won't show it. I've had loads of reports from people using my mods who experience this too.

When I've tested this before, it sometimes works eventually, but it seems to take days.

Everyone who updates their mods (or levels) has this same issue. Lots of map makers take the nuclear approach and just delete their old maps, and upload a new version every time. This sucks because players have to re-subscribe, and modders lose their stats and discussion history.

The in-game menu even says it's updating. But the files don't change.

Other games update right away. Why doesn't DK:AS?

I also verified that Steam has downloaded the newer version. It has. The new version is sitting on my computer, but the game is ignoring it.

Also - another big issue for map makers is people asking why the map doesn't show in the Workshop levels section. Can maps just be enabled by default? And leave the main Workshop settings, via the main menu, for game-changer mods?

Welp thanks to the forum admin for moving this bug issue to the graveyard forum.

Update: It's been nearly a full day since I updated REBALANCE, and the old version is still showing in-game

Hi,

this thread it's Workshop related and the appropriate board is the Workshop board.

Definitely not a graveyard.

Two days and it's still showing the old version (v1.9.1).

3 days.

I'm gonna keep updating this post, so eventually we'll know exactly how long it takes before mod updates are used in-game.

This is weird: I uploaded the latest version of my Weapons Pack mod as a separate mod -- and after subscribing to it, all my mod versions have now been updated in the game: Both REBALANCE (which I was tracking with this forum post), and my main Weapons Pack mod are now showing as the latest versions.

I don't know if it's a coincidence, it seems more likely that subscribing to a new mod is what caused the update.

Well, at least that gives me something to test with. I'll update this post again when I've run some tests and know more info.

@axios2006 sorry if my comment seemed rude by the way. I came back to modding this game after a year and it's a bit disheartening to see the same issues still occurring.

No problems :)

Definitely sorry to hear that you are experiencing the same issues.

They depend from Steam or from the game?

Thank you for your interest in the game, after such a long time. This is a problem that the Seam Mods API has, something we have no control over. You can try and delete all the mods from the game's user folder and they'll get re-downloaded. While that is definitely not a solution, it can help you develop the mods.

BTW are you creating levels too? We're doing a new official update and we need some community workforce for a couple of levels. This update will probably break some mods as it will add yet another chapter but updating the mods should be easy enough...

NEW CONTENT HYYYYPPEEE!

Thanks for letting me know about the potential breakage ahead of time, that's really appreciated. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the update when it hits.

I'm a technical modder so I focus on stats, re-works, that kinda thing, if you'd like feedback on weapon/item stats I can definitely help, I know most weapon and item's stat by heart now :)

For maps I can recommend Haru, who has made some incredible maps and has always strived to do everything possible in the editor.

And CRONOS is another creative map maker who's made a ton of maps, especially with their ambitious map pack The New West

Could you also look into how "game changer" mods stop stars from saving please?
