I don't know much about modding, but would it be hard to add a prompt upon mission select to choose sides, rather than defaulting to one? I find myself forgetting to swap far too often and it's honestly just killing the vibes when I'm losing a merc every few missions to a way-too-difficult mission (and even if I succeed I might end up going against an ally)
