I can see this being used for farming and logging in the sky, with water pumped up to a reservoir at the height limit and a single sluice that when open, allows for a continuous flow of water through a hole in the middle of each farming area, and when it reaches the ground, it flows back into a large reservoir, to then get pumped up some sort of mechanical pump ladder setup back to the top of the world. That would be fun to do on small maps, to achieve a massive population that would otherwise be impossible.
