How many of you have still been experiencing this issue? I have a ton of outdated workshop mods that refuse to update still. The only way to update mods right now, is to unsubscribe, and resubscribe. Or to verify game files. Modders have had to frequently put this in their mod descriptions.

Valve is the only one who can truly fix it.

Mechanistry can implement a workaround by embedding a custom mod manager within the base game, that will check for mod updates on its own and download them, as other games have had to do for years because Valve refuses to fix the bug till enough people have come forward about it.

The bug won't get fixed, if people won't come forward about it. You need to do your part, let both companies know the bug is real. Perhaps explain what your system is and your network stuff is. Maybe there's a coloration between the people who have that bug and those who don't.

I for example use Windows 10 Pro, with a VPN on my entire network. I disabled my VPN as a temporary test and no updates came through so I am not sure the VPN is responsible but I can't test that long term without disabling my protection for a long long time.

So, please, if you have this bug, let it be known. I've seen various people complain about it on various workshop pages.

My opinion and observation, this bug began when they needed to switch the workshop over to 64 bit IDs when they ran out of 32 bit IDs. Thats when the workshop began to fail to auto update anything using the new set of IDs. Now all mods are past that set, and thus all mods don't auto update. At least this has been my observation over the years. Bug happens with all games.
