I found a solution, this seems to solve most if not all issues related to characters appearing as "null". go into the game, go to options and then press "clear character cache", uninstall the character, reinstall, reopen the game and load the character into a single player match. I've found that I need to do this annoying process regularly for high-effort characters such as BS
